About Distance Educaton

Just as technology has become critical in all facets of daily living so has it at Central Carolina Community College. Distance Education at CCCC has expanded exponentially since the spring of 1997, when the College first began offering courses taught at a distance. Only four mail correspondence and video supplement courses, called telecourses, were offered in that inaugural semester to just eighty students needing greater flexibility for their education.

From that beginning the College then launched scores of fully online courses and almost two dozen credentials. The distance education department has gone from serving eighty students to serving an average of thirteen hundred students a semester. Over the last five years, distance education has accounted for nearly one-quarter of the College's enrollment revenue.

The position of distance education coordinator was created in July 1999 to help meet the growing demand for online learning. The College now has a distance education department consisting of four full-time positions. Students even are supported by a full-time distance education counselor, a role many colleges do not have. CCCC at a distance strives to hold the oftentimes unique needs of distance students close, working competently and compassionately with our students to ensure their success.

All curriculum courses offered through distance education at Central Carolina Community College are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Distance courses at CCCC support comparable student learning outcomes, content, and assessments as traditional, on-campus courses. The same faculty who might teach on campus are distance instructors. A range of support services is open to distance learners including all day, every day technical support.

We like to emphasize that CCCC distance education isn't. By that we mean, that we work to provide you an engaged and enriching learning experience that will make you feel close to our College, faculty, and staff. Simply put: you're not distant to us but a real person we want to serve. We invite you to be a part of Central Carolina Community College.
