Practical Nursing
Apply by September 30th for the Practical Nursing Program on the Lillington Campus in Spring of 2009
Students interested in applying for the Practical Nursing program located on the Lillington Campus for the spring 2009 semester should apply before the 5:00 pm deadline on September 30, 2008. Please make plans to visit the admissions office on one of the three main campuses meet with an admissions counselor, pick up an consideration application, and discuss your qualifications.
Application Minimum Requirements Include the Following:
- Completion of prerequisite Biology, Algebra, and Computer Literacy within the past fives years having earned the grade of "C" or better.
- Satisfactory Placement Test Scores (All test scores must be less than five years old or the student must have earned a "C" or better in the corresponding developmental courses.) See the Practical Nursing Admissions Guidelines for current required placement scores.
- Satisfactory score on the Health Occupational Basic Entrance Test (HOBET): Minimum score of 50 is required on both the HOBET Essential Math and the HOBET Comprehensive Reading Skills.
- Satisfactory Cumulative and Semester GPA of at least 2.5 cumulative and 2.0 semester.
- Provide proof of completion of a North Carolina state approved Nursing Assistant I program and active listing on the North Carolina Division of Facility Services Nursing Assistant I Registry with no substantiated finding of abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of resident property in a nursing home or other health care facility.
- Satisfactory completion of The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): TOEFL scores are required of all non United States citizens as evidence of adequate proficiency in the English language. The minimum acceptable paper-based TOEFL score is 550. The minimum acceptable computer-based TOEFL score is 213. The minimum acceptable internet TOEFL score is 80. This test is offered at multiple testing sites nationally and is at the student's expense.
- Certification in Adult/Infant/Child CPR by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross Certification in Adult/Infant/Child CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for Healthcare Providers that includes both testing and performance criteria. CPR/AED certification is required for admission selection process and must be maintained throughout application process and program enrollment.

Applicants should meet with an admissions counselor to pick up a nursing consideration application and return it no later than 5:00 pm on September 30th to the Harnett County counselor in Lillington. Please remember to bring a copy of your card verifying your completion of the Adult/Infant/Child/AED CPR course when submitting your application and proof of completion of an approved NA I program.
Applicants will be notified of their acceptance decision status in early October.
