It's An Honor To Be Among The 18%!

The CCCC Fifth Year Interim (Reaffirmation) Report has passed the SACS review process with no referrals or follow-ups! Our college is remarkable in this regard, as only 18% of colleges meet this mark and receive a clean report - fully 82% of colleges have issues that must be addressed.

CCCC's FYIR truly shines as a beacon for others - but most importantly we shine a light for our students, who can be assured that we have their success at the heart of everything we do. The SACS review is all about demonstrating high quality, effectiveness, and continuous improvement, and we have demonstrated that team CCCC is committed to upholding these ideals in service to our students.

Fifth Year Interim Report

Each of you play a major role in setting high standards in everything we do and encouraging us all to continue to reach higher, in service to our students. Each of you also played a major role bringing this enormous report (truly a collective master work-of-art) to fruition; and I am deeply thankful for the countless hours and cheerful responsiveness that you offered to the endless requests we made for assistance while putting it together. Truly, this is a reflection of the dedication and efforts of each of us in making CCCC the best it can be!

We should all be very proud of our college and the work that we do - it's a great honor to be among the 18%!

North Carolina Lt. Gov. Dan Forest (center) and his wife, Alice (left) hosted a Christmas Open House Dec. 12 at the Lieutenant Governor’s mansion, the historic Hawkins-Hartness House, in Raleigh. Chef Gregg Hamm (right), director of Central Carolina Community College’ Hospitality and Culinary Arts Program, and his Culinary Arts students were invited to provide the refreshments for the event. The students prepared 1,000 cookies using wholesome ingredients such as molasses, local honey, whole grains, gluten-free flours, and local eggs. They also prepared local apple cider for the enjoyment of the visitors. Hamm said it was an honor to be asked to do the event and an exciting experience for the students.

News From the Library

CCCC Library Staff

The Library welcomes Samantha O'Connor as our new Public Services Librarian. Samantha comes to us from the American Institute for Economic Research in Massachusetts where she was the librarian for over four years. Prior to her experience there, she worked in a couple of public libraries in Illinois. In addition to her Master of Library and Information Science degree, she also has a B.A. and a M.A. in English. Samantha will be teaching library instruction classes in the afternoons and evenings for both the Lee and the Harnett campuses. She enjoys incorporating active learning techniques into her classes. Samantha will also provide reference services, OCLC interlibrary loan services, and she will manage our College Archives, among other duties. We are very fortunate to have her as part of our library and college staff!

To schedule afternoon or evening library instruction sessions, or for questions about interlibrary loans or the College Archives, call Samantha at 919-718-7340 or email her at soconnor@cccc.edu.

CCCC Library Staff

B. J. Thompson, our Lead Library Assistant, was chosen as CCCC's Staff Member of the Year in September. B. J. was recognized for illustrating a commitment to our mission, exceeding expectations, demonstrating leadership and innovation, efficiently using college resources, exemplifying a commitment to professional development, being a positive role model, sharing knowledge, and making suggestions to improve our success. She went on to represent our college at the statewide Staff Member of the Year competition and was selected as one of the top five finalists in the state. She is the first Staff Person of the Year from CCCC to make it this far in the state competition. B. J. was recently interviewed by the selection committee, and we will hear later this month is she wins at the state level. Congratulations, B. J.!!!

Angie Stewart
Career and Technical Education Recruiter

Q.   How long have you worked for CCCC?
A.   I have worked at CCCC for 2-1/2 years now. I started in September 2011 working part-time as a Career and Technical Education Recruiter. In August 2013, I joined the Economic and Community Development team full-time in the role of Business Services Coordinator.
Q.   What brought you to CCCC?
A.   I became very familiar with the Development Planner/Existing Industry Manager, and I regularly promoted the many resources of the College to Harnett employers. While in that role, I also served on the Triangle South Workforce Development Board and the CCCC Harnett County Advisory Board. My position with Harnett County was eliminated with the economic downturn. I soon became aware of the opportunity to work with the Recruiting team at CCCC and was able, and most thankful, to move into that position.
Q.   Describe what you do for the College.
A.   As Business Services Coordinator, I work to promote, plan, organize and direct the training and administrative functions for business and industry clients, primarily in Harnett County.
Q.   Where were you born?
A.   I was born in Morrisville, NC.
Q.   Where did you grow up?
A.   I grew up in rural Harnett County in the Duncan area.
Q.   Educational credentials?
A.    I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from North Carolina State University.
Q.   Where do you live now?
A.   I live in Harnett County near Angier.
Q.   Marital status?
A.   I am married to Jon Stewart and in March 2014 we will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary!
Q.   Do you have children/grandchildren?
A.    I have two children. My son, Luke, is currently a freshman at North Carolina State University and my daughter, Lea, is a freshman at Harnett Central High School.
Q.   What are some of your hobbies or other interest outside of CCCC?
A.    My daughter is involved in school and club volleyball and softball, so we spend a lot of time traveling and watching her play ball. We also enjoy spending time at our family home at Ocean Isle Beach.
Q.   Anything else you'd like to share with the CCCC family?
A.    I am thankful to be a small part of all the great folks that make up the CCCC family!
