WOW! WHAT A TEAM!

CCCC PBL group travels to National Leadership Conference!

Congratulations to the Phi Beta Lamba chapter and its members who just attended the National Leadership Conference in California. They had a great showing and experience while in California for a week. Twenty members traveled to NLC in Anaheim, along with chaperones from the college, Joni Pavlik, Dean of Business and Media Technologies & Public Services, Diane Kannarr, Business and Marketing Instructor, and Michael Fann, Business Technologies Lead instructor.

CCCC PBL attends National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California.

The CCCC PBL group competed against 1800 plus students from around the country representing both 2- and 4-year schools. Ten members placed in the top 10 in the nation in six events.

"Overall we felt that we represented our chapter, school, and community very well. We showed what a little hard work can do in the classroom and outside of it. We were the largest chapter representing North Carolina which had around 120 members in attendance at NLC. A lot of compliments were expressed for the job each of the students had done and for the model the chapter is creating on how to be successful. While we enjoy the summer break the next year will soon be upon us and we are confident that as a chapter we will be ready to meet any challenge. We look forward to another great year with PBL at CCCC."

Davidson in as CCCC’s Women’s Basketball Coach

Central Carolina Community College's Lady Cougars basketball program returns for the 2013-14 season, with Eric Davidson as head coach.

Central Carolina Community College's Lady Cougars basketball program returns for the 2013-14 season, with Eric Davidson as head coach.

Davidson, an alumnus of CCCC (1995) and Campbell University (2002), served as head coach of the Lee Christian School varsity women's basketball program from 2008-13. He had served as assistant coach for the eight previous seasons. In addition to head coaching duties, Davidson served as athletic director at LCS for the last six years of his 15-year teaching and coaching career.

"I'm extremely excited to have the opportunity to coach at the junior college level and to be a part of CCCC athletics," said Davidson. "My goal is to build a winning program while having a positive impact in the lives of our student-athletes. Right now my focus is recruiting female student-athletes who are fierce competitors and will fit our system."

CCCC will field a women's basketball program for the first time since the 2011-12 season. The Lady Cougars are part of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) District 10, Division III. The team will compete in the Tarheel Conference against other member schools across North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. Home games will be played at the Sanford campus.

"I am very excited to have Coach Davidson at CCCC," said Mike Neal, director of Student Activities. "He is a product of our college, having been involved in student activities in the early 90s. He has run a successful program at Lee Christian that developed the whole student. That is how we will gauge success here as well. Wins are great, but meeting the academic needs of our student-athletes is as important, if not more so."

Davidson will release the 2013-14 women's basketball schedule and roster at a later date. For full information on the Lady Cougars program, visit www.cccc.edu/sports or contact Davidson at edavidson@cccc.edu.

Log onto: https://prudentialretirement.webex.com and select the meeting you would like to attend. Password: retirement (all lower case).

Did you know that retirement is the single largest investment you will most likely make? A common guideline is that you will need at least 80% of your pre-retirement income - each year in retirement - in order to maintain your current lifestyle. That's why it is so important to save as much as you can, through the NC 401(k) and NC 457 Retirement Plans.

To help you learn how much you may need to save for retirement, how easy it can be to save more, and the difference that small increases in your Plan contributions can make, we are inviting North Carolina state and local government employees to join us for an exclusive webinar event.

Watch this eye-opening webinar and learn:

  • How to figure out if you are on track
  • How to make adjustments if you are not
  • How saving more can be a small change now, but make a big difference later

If you cannot listen online you may call into the audio portion of the meeting 877-226-1506, passcode: 144 930 0585.

Retirement

Daniel Thomas retired on June 28, 2013 and had the following comments to share with his friends at CCCC: "I've enjoyed working with the CCCC Family for 32+ years. It has come to the end of this journey. I want to thank you all for your contributions to helping students achieve their educational dreams. It takes a whole village...and I was happy to be a part of it. Good luck - it's been fun, it is now time to start another phase of my life. This is my last day working full-time at CCCC. I hope to see you again sometime in the future."

A message from Dr. Anthony Harrington:
"As I retire on July 31, 2013, I having thoroughly enjoyed working with everyone here at CCCC and with my association with the Lee, Chatham, and Harnett County Schools. I was first employed part time in January 1988 teaching American History II on Wednesday nights and then full time in July 1988 teaching Radio TV Broadcasting at Triton High School in Erwin, NC and then in July 1999 I came onto main campus teaching History courses. So it has been a journey and I have enjoyed every minute of it, but now it is time to relax for a short time, but hopefully you will see me again part time next year if the crew needs me. Good luck to all you all still working hard to make CCCC the college that cares more about its students."
