Golden Gala Wraps Up CCCC's 50th

Central Carolina Community College's Golden Gala shone with the talents and enthusiasm of those at the center of its existence for a half-century: students. About 300 community and government leaders, area residents, and alumni of CCCC gathered June 28 at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center as the college paid its final tribute to its 50th Anniversary. Theater students and graduates performed a hilarious, tune-filled 'Send Up' of the college's five-decade history. Among the numbers performed, a barbershop quartet sang in four-part harmony to commemorate the change in 1988 to a four-'C' name: Central Carolina Community College.

Staff Ride Share

Thanks to the web design course of Butch Hasty, CCCC is rolling out a ride share board for faculty and staff.

Why is CCCC rolling out a ride share board? As part of CCCC's sustainability efforts we have found that the largest part of our energy use is by faculty, staff and students driving to and from campus. Driving cars is the main cause of our campus carbon emissions. Many of you may know that we are in the process of reducing our emissions as part of the national group American College and University President's Climate Commitment. Dr. Marchant signed the commitment two years ago and this is our first step in trying to reduce our transportation emissions.

We wish we had more public transportation for our students and staff. We are working closely with COLTS of Lee County to increase ridership this Fall.

Please try to out the ride board and see if you can save money, reduce emissions and maybe make a new friend via a carpool! Even if you use a ride share once or twice a week, you are making progress.

The ride share board is accessible through the intranet (look in the menu not he left). If you are not already logged in, you'll be asked to log in usage your employee email credentials.

We are grateful to the students for creating this tool, please let us know how we can improve !

Cougar Pets News

Is there room in your family and your life for a pet? Our candidates for adoption this month are worth considering. These animals, waiting patiently for permanent homes at the CCCC veterinary medical facility, are healthy, have all their shots, and have been spayed/neutered. Over the past six months there have been 28 adoptions, and in the past month the facility brought in 11 new cats and 4 new dogs with more dogs to come. Visit the Cougar Pets website at http://cougarpets.webs.com/index.html for more information and pictures of all the animals that need homes. You can reach Jonathan at (919) 718-7465 or by email at jloftis@cccc.edu if you are interested in adopting. They are ready to love you!

Admissions Counselor, Lillington Campus

Q.   How long have you worked for CCCC?
A.   I began working at CCCC on August 26, 2011.
Q.   What brought you to CCCC?
A.   After working for 20+ years at a college in the Boston, Massachusetts area, I got tired of shoveling snow out of my large driveway! Seriously, my previous work took me from Associate Director of Admissions to Director of Financial Aid to Registrar of Adult Studies. In the latter assignment I worked extensively with local community colleges and became enthralled with their mission.
Q.   Describe what you do for the College.
A.   I am an Admissions Counselor, working in the Student Services Office on the Harnett Campus.
Q.   Where were you born?
A.   I was born in Baltimore, Maryland.
Q.   Where did you grow up?
A.   I grew up just south of Baltimore, in the town of Glen Burnie, Maryland. I lived in the same house from birth until I left for college.
Q.   Educational credentials?
A.   BA in Religion - Eastern Nazarene College, Quincy, Massachusetts; M.Div. - Nazarene Theological Seminary, Kansas City, Missouri
Q.   Where do you live now?
A.   My wife and I have purchased property in Lillington and are planning to build a home soon.
Q.   Marital status?
A.   I have been privileged to share the journey with my soulmate, Ardith, for almost 36 years.
Q.   Do you have children/grandchildren?
A.   Our son is an avionics technician in New Hampshire, and our daughter lives in Lillington and attends CCCC. Between them we have four delightful grandchildren ranging from 3 to 9 years of age.
Q.   What are some of your hobbies or other interest outside of CCCC?
A.   I have a lot of interests:
  • Vegetable gardening
  • Fishing & crabbing
  • SCUBA diving
  • We are also planting a Church of the Nazarene in Lillington.
Q.   Anything else you'd like to share with the CCCC family?
A.   I'm having the time of my life living in North Carolina and working with the students and my colleagues at CCCC. We really enjoy serving our students.
