College Support for Business & Industries

All companies have at least one thing in common. All have a need for a trained work force. Central Carolina Community College, Lee, Chatham and, Harnett County Small Business Centers offer a variety of programs to assist area employers with training, retraining and upgrading the skills of their workers.

Occupational extension courses are developed for any industrial training need which can be addressed in a classroom or lab environment. Courses are tailored to meet a particular company's needs. They can be held on site or at any of the college's three campuses. Minimum class size is eight (8) and the cost is $50 per student plus book if required. For more detailed information contact Carl Thompson, for Chatham County. Or contact Dr Teronda McNeil, for Lee County. Or contact Len Royals, for Harnett County.

Customized Training Program. Industry Services of CCCC manages and coordinates training specifically for industry utilizing the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) Customized Training Program that provides customized training for both new and incumbent employees. Projects are developed through collaboration with stakeholders and subject matter experts at the particular industry and then presented to the NCCCS for funding and approval. Funding covers assessment (as needed), instruction, materials, possible lease of interim training facilities, dedicated instructor training (again, as required by the project), and other associated expenditures at little or no cost to the participating industry with most training occurring at the industry site to minimize time off the floor. Contact Cathy Swindell, Director of Industry Services, at 919-718-7212 or cswindell@cccc.edu.

Productivity Enhancement Training. This program, also managed and coordinated through Industry Services, is a state-funding discretionary fund intended for use in low (class) number, high cost training events and is also at little or no cost to the participating industry. The fund is granted to the college at the beginning of the fiscal year (July-June) and is expended at the discretion of the Director of Industry Services; System approval is not required for its use, however, certain guidelines do apply. Examples of applicable training include vendor training costs, certification courses for technical/other employees, and where full projects are not required. Literacy classes have assisted numerous industries in the upgrading of their employees skills. Many industries have recognized the importance of having a literate work force. Programs are available to help students prepare for the General Educational Development (GED) test, to assist foreign born individuals who desire to learn English in the English as a Second Language (ESL) program. For non-readers the college has the Adult Basic Education (ABE) program. For more detailed information contact Sara Lambert, for Chatham County. Or contact Evangeline Smith, for Lee County.
