Peer Leaders

Peer Leaders assist new students and their families make a positive transition to CCCC. Through assisting at New Student Orientation sessions during the summer and spring and then serving in ACA courses, Peer Leaders are some of the best-informed students at CCCC and ready to share their perspectives and experiences and answer your questions. Laney Flaugher

Hometown: Chapel Hill

Academic Program at CCCC and/or Future Major: Associate of Arts, I plan to transfer to Meredith College to get my major in graphic design and my minor in photography

One thing you wish you would have known before becoming a student at CCCC: I wish I had known that class rooms may change at the beginning of the year so check web advisor close to or on the first day of class

Favorite Thing about CCCC: My favorite thing about CCCC is the class sizes because they allow you to get to know your classmates and teachers

Advice for Incoming Students: Get to know the people in your class and make friends. It makes the whole experience way better!

Kayla Marie Fore

Academic Program at CCCC and/or Future Major: AAS in Human Services Technology

Interesting Fact: Was a volunteer firefighter for 12 years.

One thing you wish you would have known before becoming a student at CCCC: Where my classes were and how things worked at college.

Favorite Thing about CCCC: Getting to know different people from different places and cultures.

Advice for Incoming Students: Be sure to write down all important dates and be on time throughout everything.

Ashley Garrett

Hometown: Liberty, NC

Academic Program at CCCC and/or Future Major: I am currently working on an Associate in Arts at CCCC. I would like to become an ESL (English as a second language) teacher in the future.

Interesting Fact: I have visited Spain, and would like to study abroad!

One thing you wish you would have known before becoming a student at CCCC: I wish I had known that it is important to ask questions! If you need help with something, ask about it. You will only benefit from the information given.

Favorite Thing about CCCC: My favorite thing about CCCC is, hands down, the teachers! Their advice has helped me transition from high school to college smoothly. The teachers are always there to help and offer extra support if you need it.

Advice for Incoming Students: My advice for incoming CCCC students is to study hard, ask questions, and to take advantage of the resources the school provides to its students. The academic assistance centers and libraries are great places to get help and do homework.

Matthew Hamilton

Academic Program at CCCC and/or Future Major: Associate in Applied Science, Computer Information Technology (CCCC); Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, Computer Information Technology Concentration (ECU)

Interesting Fact: Things must orderly, neat, organized, and/or aligned properly or I go bonkers!

One thing you wish you would have known before becoming a student at CCCC: This is a difficult question to answer as the orientation I went to answered most, if not all, my questions. If I had to choose, I wish I would of known more about the process of transferring to other institutions.

Favorite Thing about CCCC: The atmosphere is my favorite thing about CCCC. The students and teachers are amazing people, and I love that.

Advice for Incoming Students: Do not procrastinate or put off schoolwork. Stay organized and diligent. This advice goes a long way, trust me.

Favorite Thing about CCCC: Becca Macklin and also the wonderful sense of community!

Advice for Incoming Students: Don't be afraid of your first semester because college classes are much harder than high school classes and it's important to stay calm. Smile, laugh, and do not forget to believe in the person you are now and the person you will become

Mikayla Lamont

Academic Program at CCCC and/or Future Major: Associates of science (AS), Future major: bachelors in biochemistry

Interesting Fact: I am best friends with someone with the same first name as me. I have had 4 surgeries so far in my life, one of which I was awake for and one yet to come.

One thing you wish you would have known before becoming a student at CCCC: One thing I wish I would have known before becoming a student at CCCC is that they have an SGA and if I had known earlier I would have joined sooner because I love being the Vice President of CCCC Chatham and meeting new people.

Favorite Thing about CCCC: My favorite thing about CCCC is how quiet the campus is outside so that on a sunny day I can study at a picnic table.

Advice for Incoming Students: My advice for incoming students is that this is a college and the classes will be harder than high school so it is imperative that you study every night and turn in every assignment. And to not be too proud to ask for help when you are struggling.

Teddy Oliver

Academic Program at CCCC and/or Future Major: (AA) Associates of Arts (Transfer Program) & Social Worker (Bachelors, Masters) Appalachian State

Interesting Fact: I was a professional Cheerleader for CHEER EXTREME ALLSTARS and a Gymnastics teacher for THE LITTLE GYM

One thing you wish you would have known before becoming a student at CCCC: I wish I would have known more about the school and what it has to offer someone like me, not just a job but a carrier choice that will help me became a better me whoever that may be.

Favorite Thing about CCCC: The TRIO program hands down, and the CCCC Staff!

Advice for Incoming Students: Live Limitless, don't put limits on what you can do, how will you know what you can do if you never try. Ask for help, staff are here to see you succeed. Make a plan and stick with it, you have enough resources here at school and Tutors are available at the STEM LAB for free.

Favorite Thing about CCCC: My favorite thing is the academic support, specifically the tutoring and STEM lab.
